Big Murk grafts the sound of his childhood vernacular onto UK grime’s skittering drum patterns, all carefully reinforced with his characteristic fat, calculated basslines. Bristol-based independent Palestinian-Jordanian producer and MC delivers his DJ and hybrid Live sets as a quirky melting pot, chopping up grime, breaks, techno, UKG, electro, and GQOM into a chunky stew sprinkled liberally with his own productions, both bouncy and neck-snapping.
His 2020 solo EP “El Shmurk” draws inspiration from the early phases of his career, he delves into trip-hop, rhythmic modulation, and unconventional applications of sampling and FL Studio drum programming tricks. In addition to a handful of well-established UK artists, Murk has collaborated with regional underground legends from the rap and electronic music scene such as Muqata’a and Haykal trailblazing a fresh fusion of grime and drill. His release with Palestinian rapper Dakn and frequent collaborator Rknddn, “Gasolina” is a relentless sonic assault and might just be the “grimiest track you’ll hear all year.” He also has produced for Fawzi and released under the Palestinian label BLTNM Records.
Regular in many of Amman’s underground venues and international online radios, he performed across the region and in festivals in Europe, collaborated with and produced for the likes of Abyusif, Marwan Moussa, Synaptik, Cheb Terro, Saskilla, Joe Fire, Abul3ees, Mehrak, Dakn, Shbash, Laughta, Malkom, Bint7alal, Molotof, and Jurum, to name a few.
